Montecalvi is a small organic winery at the gates of Greve in Chianti. The old stone farmhouse was turned into a winery in the 1980'ies and produced a wine with the name of the house, Montecalvi. It was a sort of field blend from some very old Sangiovese vines, and some Cabernet Sauvignon that was planted at the time. Later, new wines were developed to feature the regional Chianti Classico and 2 IGT wines (Super Tuscans).
San Piero is the name of the small parcel the Cabernet Sauvignon grows in. The vineyard yields small amounts of excellent grapes and after a manual harvest in October the wine ages for 2 years in Tonneau of French oak. Only a few hundred bottles are released in the most favorable vintages.
